Food here is very authentic. Environment is homey, and staff is friendly and attentive. Restaurant is also clean, and portions are a good size.
Great food great portions. Good food. Just don't order the Menudo it smells like they didn't clean it properly. Still gets five stars because the food is just amazing otherwise and the service is pretty friendly.
So many years coming here only to find out that my dad used to come here too. Wow! I'm blown away! Has to say something about the food and service. They have remodeled but the food is great. Forgot the fotos. Sorrry.
Visiting SF and on a whim decided to go for lunch. This absolutely is a great place from the food to the service! Highly recommend!
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area. The food is authentic, affordable and consistent over time. The best part about this place is the service of the staff. Never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for the order to arrive at the table.
Will definitely recommend this place
The chicken wings and enchiladas are excellent. Great service too!
Really good food , wonderful experience great service and decent price recommend the mango drink delicious ?
A very low key "mom and pop" type place. The server was very polite and quick, despite juggling numerous tables. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. An easy pick if you want quality food and a relaxed atmosphere.
One of my favorite places since day one when it was called La Perla. Its the most authentic Mexican restaurant north of the border and everything here is absolutely delicious made with only fresh top quality ingredients with excellent service.. The fresh tortillas are heavenly as well as all the soups. Every dish is mouth watering and will be your go to spot when you have a hankering for Real Mevican food just like being in grandmas kitchen.
Hey! Their Tuesday chicken soup special is amazing! I bought it to-go and the bag was so heavy, lol. Turns out I had enough soup for days. It comes with huge chunks of moist chicken and corn, with squash and misc veggies :). It's accompanied with onions, cilantro, and rice packed separately. The salsa they gave for the chips side is so good too. What do they put in it? I remembered to write this review bc I'm eating the leftovers as we speak. It's so terrible I don't usually find myself in the area on a Tuesday afternoon.
I must have called 30 places on New Years Day to find a place that sells Menudo. Finally, I found this place. Not only open on New Years, but this place is amazing. Friendly staff, great menudo, easy parking, huge spacious inside, nice outdoor seating, and even a bar.
Menudo was amazing. Very clean. Not greasy at all.
I can't wait to come back here
My sister's and I came to San Francisco to hang out and do a little shopping. We found this small restaurant close to our hotel. Right when we walked in the aroma was fantastic. The chips and salsa were delicious. I ordered the Chile Verde. It comes with rice beans and home made tortillas. The tortillas were so good I wish I would have ordered some to go. My sister ordered the Fajitas Supremas(chicken, steak and shrimp). If you are looking for authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price then this is your spot. The parking isn't great but the food is worth it. I love whole in the wall restaurants and this did not disappoint. Cheers!
Went inside to pick up a takeout and the house was full, the breakfast plates that were being served looked absolutely scrumptious and the aroma was heavenly. I will return for a Sunday morning breakfast and another review. The takeout was fresh and loaded with chicken and fresh avocado.
Don't be quick to judge because of the area/outside look. The food and service is ABSOLUTELY amazing. Great authentic dishes with perfect hand-made tortillas. Enjoy!!!
The best Mex around town. Tequila too. Dont forget the Menudo.
Great Albundigas on Thursday.
And all the food is really good.
Coctel de camaron worth the order, my husband loved the quesadilla!
Great food, great service. Cute little place off the beaten track. Our fajitas were so good!! We would definitely come here again!!
Fresh homemade tortillas!!!
With so many taquerias in South City, La Nueva Perla stands out to me the most because of how quaint it is on a less busier street.
Their Agua Frescas are a must-get here. You know some of those taquerias who make them a little bit too sweet? (Maybe even artificially) Well, not this place. You can tell how noticeably fresh it is with the fruit bits inside; it's always the perfect level of sweet.
I always stick to their Combination meals because it fills me up every time. You get to pick 2 items out of the selections: tamales, enchiladas, flautas, etc. It also comes with a complimentary basket of fresh, warm homemade tortillas!! My absolute favorite.
Oh, and they always give a free basket of hot salsa and chips too!
On my most recent visit, we ended up having to wait over 25 minutes for our food to arrive. It did take a while, but nonetheless it was delicious.
Good food, they also sell home made torrtillas and they are good
Had the chicken salad. Good, but wasn't wowed. Maybe need to try a burrito...
Authentic food and I dont mean the burritos are good. The birria tastes like your mom made it and it comes with fresh tortillas. Delicious aguas frescas and micheladas.
Did not know this place existed. Tiny re-done house with an awesome backyard bar. Easy parking across the street as the on street parking fills up quick. Walked through the house to the back where we had a work get together. Full spread or awesome bites, the chicken wings are incredible. With a full bar. Fun, low hanging decor and plenty of tables to lounge. Very good service and with perfect weather this was ideal.
Clean, yummy traditional Mexican. Al pastor tacos my goodness.
Very delicious Mexican food and nice server is very good people
I’ve been eating at La Nueva Perla for 30 years. Great food and service at very reasonable prices. You can’t beat it!
Fantastic food, outstanding and friendly service. The salsa is crazy good!!!! Get the La Perla Quesadilla with carne asada. Excellent!
Family environment, friendly and prompt service and decent prices. Can't go wrong.
This place is so good I recommend tortilla soup... Yummy thank you Chef and all staff
The birria is amazing and so are the micheladas! Sit in the back, outside if you're lucky to get good weather.
Horchata! The food is amazing as always but on Sundays after Church this place is amazing! I had Pozole and it had flavor. It was perfect.... But what made my experience better was the horchata! I have had it everywhere but this has been by far the best from SF to LA!
Great food but I especially like their menudo.
It is far better than I've tried from st least fifteen other places s.f., daly city, and s.s.f.
Incredible food! Great service! Very homey decor, but you go there for the food, not the style.
Good tortas. Outside dinning area is really nice, have had lunch their last two weeks TV's outside are great watching world cup.
Parking for La Neuva Perla can be challenging. There is street parking, but if you plan to dine in the evening, it's by pure luck that you score a spot. There is a parking lot at the corner Lux and Linden, which is free after 6 PM.
La Nueva Perla is a small restaurant with an additional room for parties. We dined there on a Saturday night and when we walked in (6 PM), nearly every table was taken. We were seated in the back, under the TV, and my husband had a view of the kitchen from his chair. This was not that big of a deal, but I felt it should be noted. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience, this isn't it. It is very much in line with what I find in family owned Mexican Restaurants: tables and chairs, good food, noisy atmosphere.
The food is very good. I had a taco and enchilada combination (beans, rice, and salad on the side). The beans were a bit on the runny side, but worked well when scooped up with chips. The salad is really an attempt to fool you into thinking that you are having something nutritious: iceberg lettuce, a large tomato slice, slathered in what tasted like Thousand Island dressing. My husband enjoyed the Pollo Asado (grilled chicken with fries and refried beans), while my daughter had their shrimp burrito (she described it as "huge", which it was, filled with beans, rice, cheese, and very large grilled prawns). My father in law enjoyed a Chile Relleno (spicy, but that's what he likes), and my niece had Tacos al Carbon. They also made their tortilla in-house and they are very good (though they could use a pinch more salt in the dough. But dip them in salsa, or cover them in beans, and you are good to go.
So, why the four stars? The service. It's not that it's bad service, it's just VERY slow service. I thought perhaps there was only one waitress, but my husband (who could see the whole restaurant) told me that there were three servers. Here were the issues:
*had to ask for a refill on the chips multiple times before getting them
*had to ask for refills on the water multiple times
*the amount of wait time between the asking and the actual arrival of the items
*same for the check. From the time our plates were cleared to the check arriving on the table, about 10 minutes had gone by, and it was another 10 minutes before it was picked up and processed.
For some people, this may not be an issue, the time. And if it were just adults at the table, we probably would not have had issue. But if you have children, who know that once the food is gone it's time to go, that can be problematic.
Overall, though, very good.
I'll go back again!
Low key local spot for standard Mexican food, reasonably priced, friendly service. 2nd visit, seems like a local favorite.
Really good food, authentic flavor. Everything was good, only thing sodas were pricy. But other then that it was good
FRESH Tortillas, made to order. That in itself is enough to recommend this gem of a restaurant. The service was a tad slow, but we get it now as everything is made when you order it, and that takes a bit of time. Go when you are wanting a leisurely meal. We had a salad, delicious chicken and beans and rice topped with fresh salsa and those outstanding tortillas on the side; a pair of excellent tamales, served with melted cheese on them (a first for us, but delicious) and more of those outstanding tortillas; and an appetizer. Everything was really tasty! They clearly take the time to do things well, and take pride in serving quality food. The ambiance, such as it is, is a bit divvy - this is a no frills restaurant with old-school decorations and not a lot of ambiance lighting. But since you're going to go for the food, you can forgive the rather pedestrian surroundings! Parking is getting tougher since they're building lots of new high-density housing and there's already a scarcity of parking, so give yourself a few minutes to circle around. WORTH THE EFFORT! And no matter what you're eating, get some tortillas. Omg.
DELICIOUS FOOD EVERYTIME! Margaritas are on point. If you want great food and authentic Mexican food check out La Nueva Perla.
I have been going there for years and it only gets better. Food is out of this world always on point never fails, it is amazing.
Friendly atmosphere and good service in this Mexican restaurant. I went there specifically for their Wednesday special, beef tongue stew. Portions are huge and prices very reasonable.
Definitely a quality oriented Mexican Restaurant. The food has the flavor of being made from scratch. I realized this fact when the salsa arrived and the handmade tortillas. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and the sauce was buttery tasting yet spicy. It reminded me of Masala Sauce. The service was extremely fast and the waitress was attentive. The Restaurant is clean and we'll organized. I loved coming to this place.
Amazing good food..! Service, the best. Menudo, my favorite. Love to go there on weekends for a great fresh menudo and home made tortillas. Yumi
My family and I loved this place. This was the first restaurant we ate at in our 9 day west coast trip from San Fransisco to San Diego. At the end of the trip it still remained as one of the most authentic and delicious Mexican food we had during the trip. Great service!
First time here. Excellent food. I had the sopes and the pork was very tender! I highly recommend!
Excellent selection. First time here and I ordered the sopes. Delicious pork!
The restaurant is very clean and the staff is very helpful and personable. It’s my first time there and I ordered menudo. It was very good. I plan on going back and having some combination plates.
Horchata! The food is amazing as always but on Sundays after Church this place is amazing! I had Pozole and it had flavor. It was perfect.... But what made my experience better was the horchata! I have treief it everywhere but this has been by far the best from SF to LA!
Low key local spot for standard Mexican food, reasonably priced, friendly service.
My new semi-local favorite; Great service and fantastic fajitas, refried beans are perfect too. Only thing missing is freshly squeezed orange and carrot juice. Hard to find Mexican food like this on the Peninsula.
Every time I'm in this neighborhood I make sure to have a meal here. The food is fresh and delicious no matter what I order. Today I had a fajita salad and I loved it. Will go back again and again!
Food was pretty good, our waitress gave us plenty of time and allowed us the comfort of family without being interrupted. Now I have the itus. In the middle of the neighborhood so not easy to find, however paid parking in th area; not a new problem to have in Cali
I love dogs more than people and the mere mentioning of them makes me jump out of my seat like a thirsty cougar at a Thunder Down Under show. Half nekkid men swinging their banana hammock wrapped schlongs IN your face.
I much rather get mobbed by a dozen of cuddly puppies.
While eating dinner at La Nueva Perla, we were talking to the sweet manager and she told us one of her favorite customers is a couple with a frenchie. Of course, all I heard was "frenchie" and got all excited. Maybe we'll get to meet this frenchie one day so Tater Tot and him/her can be the next: people.com/pets/dog-enga .
La Nueva Perla has been here since the 60s but I never noticed it because it's off the main drag (Grand avenue). And, there's only about 100 reviews on Yelp - what's up with that? Support your small businesses y'all!
I was walking TT in Brisbane and was on the hunt for a nearby restaurant with outdoor seating so we can have dinner. La Nueva Perla popped up on Yelp search and I gave them a quick call to confirm if their outdoor seating allows dogs. They do so we made our way there. The 10% Yelp cash back was also an incentive.
We were led to a cute backyard patio where we were seated. As we were perusing the menu, I noticed they have a FULL bar. Now, that's rare for a small family owned restaurant to have these days. I ordered the Watermelon Margarita ($7): bit.ly/2rZm453 which was a bit artificial tasting but boozy. It's only $7 so I can't complain much.
For food, they have the Mexican staples: Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, Taco Salad, Sopes, Fajitas, Tacos, Burritos, and Meat & Seafood Rice plates. They have daily specials and weekend specials like menudo and birria. Most items are priced around $12.95. Kids menu available.
While waiting for our order, we were given a basket of chips and salsa: bit.ly/2GDQj4H . The salsa had a good balance of spice and acidity.
I ordered the Wednesday Special: Caldo de Res - Beef Shank Soup ($12.95): bit.ly/2nwKzkE which came with a side of rice, housemade tortillas, and fixings (onions, cilantro, and limes) for the soup.
Nothing says, Mexican comfort meal more than a bowl of Mexican soup. Deliciously hearty and satisfying, the caldo de res was chockfull of fall-off-the-bone beef shank with steaming hot broth. The broth needed a sprinkling of the fixings with a squeeze of lime but that's easily overlooked when you have nearly a pound of uber tender beef shank: bit.ly/2GC3DXy ! The tortillas were hard around the edges so that's the only thing I didn't care for.
My friend ordered the other Wednesday Special: Lengua de Salsa - Beef Tongue in Red Sauce ($12.95): bit.ly/2GC8OGJ . The three slices of lengua were meltingly tender but another slice would have made it more of a filling meal. Also, the red sauce could have used some herbs to add freshness to the canned sauce. The accompanying rice and creamy refried beans were on point.
Service was warm, friendly, and attentive despite us being the only ones in the outdoor patio.
The dining area is spread across three areas (two inside and one outside) making it great for large parties or a private event.
Parking can be a bit challenging since it's a residential area. The public parking lot across the street tends to quickly fill after 5 pm.
Solid family-owned, Mexican restaurant with a full bar and kind service. While the food is not perfect, they really know how to cook their stewed meats here and that's what will encourage return visits. Oh yea, that and the dog-friendly patio and the chance to meet that frenchie!
Luv this place in South San Francisco! Always great service, very friendly and like home. Food fresh, hot and good blasting drinks. Nice date night food and drinks.
Excellent authentic Mexican food, reasonable prices, service and selection! Bonus: plenty of parking. If you feel like eating Mexican food in South City, give this place a try.
La perla is one of my favorite Mexican places to eat. Clean and good service plus the food taste so good at all times
Overall good place, at least to visit and try. Very busy restaurant. The waitress is friendly and welcoming. Attentatve customer service. Good food of course. Will be recommend to my people.
Since rediscovering this place my coworkers and friends come for lunch at least once every two weeks. Sometimes once a week. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable.
The food was amazing. They had the softest carnitas and homemade tortillas. Everyone enjoyed their food
Very cute local restaurant, excellent menu and delicious food at fantastic prices.
Great food at a decent price; good service too.
After living in the Midwest for years and having a forced layover on my way out of the country, this was the best treat ever. Salsa was spicy and flavorful, while the chips were hot and shatteringly crisp. I got the pizole and it was the best I've ever had. Their agua fresca was the just sweet enough. Seriously I could not be happier with the way my trip turned out. I may have to plan for layovers so I can eat here again.
5 stars solely on the soups. I am extremely picky when it comes to Mexican soups and they have the best ones I've ever tried - almost better than my moms.. *gasp* ! The albonigas on Thursday is my favorite, the sopa de res is amazing, and the menudo and pozole on the weekends are perfect. I've made a few extra trip this last month while battling a cold and they definitely make me feel a ton better. They also have bomb ass horchata. The service is whatever, the rest of the food is good. But these soups are everythingggg.
Best Mexican food in city.! Their salsa is garlicy good and their chips is so crunchy and fresh. Came in on Christmas eve for lunch and this place is packed. Families are having their holiday get together and their foods look yummy good. There were rib-bye and some kind of fried fish. Looks good. While waiting for our food, the server gave us more chips and salsa and pica de Gallo. Wow, our food came and still hot. The pork tamales was great with the hot salsa. My hubby's carnitas was tasty good and their serving was generous. Overall, enjoyed lunch very much.
Good food, order anything on the menu! I had the costillas, delicious!
Love love this place. Food was authentic. Staff was friendly. Good portions of food. I ordered the Chile Rellenos Pozole and it was delicious! The horchata that I ordered for a drink was enormous and freshly home made made.
Cute sit down Mexican restaurant. Nice and clean. Lots of menu items. The salsa they gave with the free chips was awesome. Had a smoked flavor with a nice spice at the end. Ordered the steak quesadilla and it was delicious! Dish came with sour cream, pico, and guac. My friend got the carnitas burrito and said it was very good. Will definitely be back!
Very good Mexican Food and VERY CLEAN. The service is very good and friendly.
I was impressed, it was very tasty. It was a very homey feeling like you were invited to someone's house.
Out standing food and service rocks, never a bad meal, we come out here from SF, still better then ANYTHING in SF. Love you guys.
Excellent food and service i would highly
Recomend this place for great mexocan food and tortillas
Everybody like their food that they had, and the service was really good. I'll be going back :)
Great small Mexican joint. Great service. Delicious chips and salsa.
Very good hand made tortillas also.
Tvs to watch sports on.
Very close to 10 freeway and so easy in and out when traveling on the freeway.
I'm glad I found this place.
Found this place on a whim because the boyfriend and I were lookin for chilaquiles near by. Food was great and service not too bad! We'll be back soon :)
We Finally checked out this restaurant- found a new favorite Mexican close to home. There's an outdoor patio and a banquet room for parties. Very yummy tasty food!
AWESOME PLACE! Authentic Mexican food and GREAT customer service...
I don't usually indulge in Mexican food but this place was amazing. The salsa was spicy but very flavorful. I ordered the super shrimp burrito and it was so good and big. I just wished they had put salsa in the burrito so it would be spicy. I also tried the camarones a la diabla and it was also delicious and flavorful. I didnt think it was too spicy but my sister did so be careful if your sensitive to chile. I would definitely go back for some awesome Mexican food.
One of our favorite Mexican restaurant in the entire peninsula! This is an authentic Mexican restaurant that deserves the detour!
Really nice place in SSF. I like authentic mexican food and this is the place. The horchata is huge and the food is good. Service could be a bit better, maybe they are understaffed? This keeps them from 5 stars, but totally good if you love a homemade tasting meal. The ambience is nice and they have tv's in case that matters.
If you want good Mexican food near SF Airport come here! They were reasonable prices and the food was great! Good service even though she couldn't speak that good of English, my favorite part was that the tortillas were homemade!
Best Mexican food I have EVER HAD!!! The La Perla wet breakfast burrito is phenomenal!!! We love this place !
Food tasted very good. Service was a bit slow though.
Great food... wonderful ambiance.. and the service is the best... Juan and his family take great pride in making it a wonderful dining experience.
New owners of La Nueva Perla are trying their best. Some good improvements, but our answer as to whether we would return...perhaps. A lot of the charm of La Perla were the old staff...most of them have seen my children and grandchildren grow up. The tortillas were good, although they were more doughy than usual and the salsa waa not as hot. We will go again since one visit can not really review this great old restaurant properly.
been coming here for years, came by yesterday and everything was different,, remodel , new menu same stuff just different menu, i was hesitant to order my usual, Chili Relleno , but i did and it was good, not the same sauce but good, and the tortilla's are still FAT!!!!!
Food is amazing!! Service is super fast and I'm always satisfied!!
Anybody tell you that this place is not very good obviosly does not have a clue about Mexican food. I have been going there for over ten years and never had a bad meal. The new owners have kept the home cooking tradition and everything I have ordered is great. Sevice is excellent and everything is very clean. If you love your Mexican food look no further.
My boyfriend always gets the tacos dorado, I've had them before, so good. Chile rellenos are delicious. Chicken fajitas are my favorite so good, I am not fond of the red sauce they put on top now, but the rest is my favorite meal in the bay area. I love this place, it's our date night spot. Always get awesome service from a younger woman that works here. Salsa is HOT so I suggest some sweet horchata.
This place has not let me down yet! The food is always wonderful along with the service. I had the fish tacos that last time...DELICIOUS! Today I had the albondiga soup, and it was hands down fabulous! Just make sure you have enough time. Although the food is fabulous, it takes a bit to get it and checkout.
new to the area and looking for a decent Mexican joint for lunch. the piece that sealed the deal was reading the review about fresh tortillas. The food definitely lives up to the reviews, service is great, the food is good, salsa was really good. i'll definitely be back and tell my friends.
This is my favorite new sit-down Mexican place in South City. How is it I've worked in SSF for over 5 yrs and never been here? They make their tortillas fresh and have a big back patio.... It doesn't get better than this.
I've dined at La Perla since 1984 or 1985 and have always loved the food. Now La Nueva Perla, the new owners have got it dialed in and delicious again.
The upgrades to the facility, professional staff and great menu make this a great place for fine Mexican fare.
I took my whole family and a friend there for lunch last week and everyone loved it. I wish I still worked in the area but can still enjoy for dinner and weekend lunches.
I liked the old restaurant , BUT to my surprise I love the new one better! I tried them when they first opened and it was uh ok. They are soooo good now service and food excellent.
La Nueva Perla provided catering trays for my son's birthday party. AMAZING service and spectacular food. They delivered and set up nice stainless steel chafing dishes and took everything away at the end of the party. Lots of my guests asked where I got the food so they could hire them for their own parties. In addition to the meat, beans, rice, etc, they also provided a TON of salsa, pico, guac, chopped cilantro and chopped onions. BRAVO!
I've tried all the mexican places in south city and this one is overall the best. Everything is really good, but I usually get an al pastor wet super burrito. The nachos are crazy too. Specials are good, soups are good. No need for apps, stick to the classics and you'll be happy.
The posole here changed my life.
I've never been to the old Perla, so i don't know how it was. The owners are super nice and very helpful and accommodating. The food is so fresh and delicious. I had the tacos, and they were served on a fresh hand made tortilla. Awesome. I also had the pina agua fresca, and that was refreshing!! Definitely would come back. 2 tacos and a drink for under 10, including chips and salsa.
Best Mexican food I have ever had outside of Mexico.the homemade tortillas are heavenly.service is so friendly and prompt, they treat every one like family.
We have been going here, since the owners moved from Los Pinos (from what we've heard)... The service, is great. The food has not failed me or my family! We have been going here since Feburary. This is my husbands Sunday morning hangover cure location lol. We can roll out of bed and go there.
THEY DO ACCEPT ALL MAJOR CREDIT CARDS! I was reading previous reviews and seen that they must've not taken them before.
They have fresh home made tortillas, which are enjoyable! Can't complain, and if your in the area I recommend to definetly stop by and give it a shot! :)
I think I recognize the server dude as the same guy from the old Los Pinos. I wonder if the old Pinos owners have taken over the Nueva Perla?
Anyways, chips and salsa always good. Awesome fish tacos, decent prices, clean, friendly service, bright location.
I've been going to La Perla for as long as I can remember. My parents loved the place and used to take us all the time. Now it's me bringing my family there. There was a recent change of ownership, but don't worry. I still see the same faces working and the only thing I've noticed different is that they took down the murals on the walls. And maybe a little more green salad added to the dishes.
I love the soft tacos. If you get a two taco plate, you can easily make four tacos with the filling and the complimentary homemade tortillas.
For breakfast, I usually go with the huevos con machaca.
The Menudo is fantastic for those hangover mornings, lol.
Plenty of parking in the area, just be careful with the street cleaning signs.
I love this place!! Have been having lunch here at least twice a month for almost two years. Everything is made from scratch, including the tortillas. The soups are spectacular.
Let's start with the fact that there are NEW OWNERS. That means, now they accept credit cards. Don't be fooled by the previous post!
Delicious mexican food. I asked for my huevos rancheros, like I had them at "liberty cafe." Which was on top of a quesadilla. They said, sure thing. SO MUCH BETTER THAN LIBERTY CAFE! The red salsa on top of the eggs, to die for. I asked for no beans or rice on my plate (so they can be put in a bowl for my daughter). DONE! I asked for no onions in my coctel de camarones, DONE. The tortilla soup, delicious. Price is very reasonable. The owners are very tentative to your needs, refils without asking. Homemade tortillas. Aguas frescas from scratch. You name it, it's on their menu. My go-to mexican spot now - especially for sunday breakfast. Don't walk, RUN! They've revamped the next door for private events, and the back area as well. Looks real nice. Clean, family friendly, Just excelent. Family owned.
Delicious!!! Stopped by for breakfast. Mexican coffee, thick homemade corn tortillas, smoked salsa, huevos con nopales were tasty. The chilaquiles with red sauce were so flavorful.
Probably the best burrito I've ever had! Great service! Nice atmosphere! So glad we took everyone else's advice from Yelp and ate here!!
I like that this place is off the main streets. Don't normally think to stray off Grand or Baden for good Mex, but am happy I was taken here. Wait staff was friendly, the super nachos are delicious. Carnitas was not overly salty in my just right portion of super nachos. Only nit was that the food came out a bit slow, but hey it was lunch on a Sunday afternoon...
There's not much to say except that the food is excellent and tastes fresh and almost home-made. I ordered chicken enchilada and pork taco, and the meat was cooked well but not dry at all. The staff is also very nice. Highly recommended.
The food here is great - it is only exceeded by the excellence of the staff. We have had two family parties here (and being that I come from a large family - it is always nice when you have a place who can accommodate us most quickly and with joy). Juan and his staff (particularly Diego and Rose) were so attentive to our guests - because of the size of our party, we had our own use of a "private" room (which normally is part of the restaurant however the way it is situated, it was private. We were even able to use separate entrance, which is normally locked during business hours which was particularly great for our elderly guests - one who was in a wheel chair - no steps) . They set the room up nicely to accommodate 48 of us with a large table in the middle and individual booths of 4 on the sides. There was also a fully stocked bar (with bartender) and large screen TV behind the bar. (there was no extra charge for the bar and bartender as it worked out the bar is located in this room), There is also another TV in the room which makes it great if you want to watch a sporting event. The management allowed us to plug in an ipod for our own customized music. And the food... such large portions for the price and each item was so good ..the homemade tortillas...mouth watering. We will definitely be returning here. I highly recommend it if you have a large party. They also have a patio in the back which can be used as well.
A great neighborhood restaurant. We were looking for huevos rancheros when in the area and found it here. Nice waitress and very good home style food. I want to go back and try the chili rellenos! Happy hour prices looked pretty good too.
Best sit down mexican food in South SF. Plus best barbacoa i had ever! Weekends only!
So far, best taqueria I've had in South City. Very filling and flavorful. Had the shrimp burrito, and it was on point. Coworkers had taco salad and various tacos and they were raving about it. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a taqueria in SSF.
Used to go here as a kid and just get tortillas and butter...now I've had their chilesquiles and its so good. Have taken it to go and ate in the dining area. Very yummy.
Delicious beyond delicious! !! Authentic flavorful. Omg deserve six stars.
If in milbrae wanting mexican food drive here ....OMG. worth it
Had chicken soup and one of the best ever . Chicken and carna sada tacos great fresh homemade tortillas. Beans like momma made. Really can't say enough
The shrimp ( garlic and butter) plate is my fav! Their home made corn tortillas are reason alone to go try this place out
Soooooo good. I ordered the fajitas supremas. Lots of meat and good portion. Not to mention they give you fresh home made tortillias. Not to many Mexican restaraunt around that are actually really good. This one definitely stands out. I'll be back
The menudo was great and accompanied with hand made very thick corn tortillas made my breakfast very complete, the machaca was also very tasty. The cafe de olla was excellent. The service was very friendly.
I came here with my family for lunch on a Sunday. The carnitas super burrito was huge and contained some of the best carnitas I've EVER tasted. This place is good for kids, a plus for me. One big downside in my opinion, there were several TVs and they were very loud. The blaring TVs took away from my experience.
Green Chilaquiles hit the spot. It was delicious and friendly service. The pancakes were also a hit.
Delicious food at a good price. I will definitely go back!
The salsa, homemade tortillas, tacos, and rice are amazing.
We've been here many times for different occasions, birthdays, lunch, dinner, etc. They are always so friendly, we know we will be treated with love when we are here. The margaritas are great and food is consistently delicious. My heart and belly are full, thank you so much!
Thanks Yelp, this place was awesome. Clean, great service, great food, good prices. Had no idea where to go only here for an overnight, this couldn't have been better.
Just seen that my favorite restaurant in SSF is open for breakfast!! Yeeeasss!! Great service as always and again the best salsas in town #bestofSSF
Yum! Great Chilaquiles! Great spicy salsa, perfect beans and rice. Very good.
My in laws come here often, and I'm sure we'll be back with them.
Great service and great food!! I'm glad we found this restaurant off Linden Avenue.
My daughter ordered chicken tacos with rice and my husband had the carne asada burrito while I had the carne asada plate - all delicious and with homemade tortillas!!
We will be back when we are in the area.
What can I say about this place... This was my first time here and I love ceviche so I asked for a tostada de ceviche. Juan, the owner, recommended that I try a Champechana, and with much hesitation I did.
Juan knows what he's talking about!!! The Champechana was AMAZING!!! I'm debating taking one to go so that I can eat this deliciousness tomorrow. I hate octopus but it tastes SO GOOD in this!
The service is great, the food - AMAZING! Juan is such a friendly person, more than willing to recommend something based on your mood and what you want. I HIGHLY recommend trying La Nueva Perla, it won't disappoint!!!
I'll be back for sure to try more!
Theres only 1 reason I go here and its on Sunday mornings. Their menudo is 2nd to none! From their home made tortillas, to the flavor of their broth, to the amount of foot they put in it, it truly is the perfect hangover cure. I've never tried anything else from here, hence only 4 stars, but the menudo is on point. Even taking it to go, thy give you all the added condiments, from chopped onion, oregano, cilantro, sliced limes, all in a very nice to go package. If you need a cure for your Sunday morning hangover, order this over and over again!
Love this place. The service is great and friendly. Chips and salsa spicy, Food is tasty and generous. We love the daily specials. And they are open till 10p. Recommend!!
So far I have started off with the chips and salsa, and the best Horchata I've tried. Worth it so far. Haven't tried the food yet, but I'm expecting just as good.
The huevos con machaca here are insane. Even if u have never had huevos con machaca and u don't even know what it is, just order it here. Phenomenal, I promise.
Service is a little slow when they are busy, they accommodate a large capacity but have a small wait staff, but it was no problem because the chips and salsa are bomb and aplenty. Jamaica agua fresca is pretty standard, delicious as usual. I can't wait to go back here and get this dish again, I want to shout it from the rooftops!!
HANDS DOWN!!! Thee BEST place for Mexican food in San Mateo County and South City. Amazing breakfast, Amazing Dinner, awesome service, all of the waitresses are so nice and quick. They have t.vs everywhere and a projection screen right behind there FUUUL BAR. They have all desired liquor and beer. The portions of food are huge. They have a patio as well for outside dining on nice days. Someone please tell me something this place doesn't have.
My friend & I were looking for a good breakfast place, we saw La Perla was a local favorite so we came here.
I ordered the La Perla breakfast burrito with machaca. It came with green sauce and cheese on top with refried beans and other yummy goodness on the inside. It was so damn good that if I had room, I would order another one. It was probably one of the best machaca burrito I've ever had.
My friend had a very tasty garlic fish and it was delicious. Very big portions.
I wish I live near by this place because I would definitely be a regular customer for breakfast.
Tortilla soup is excellent. Could use a little more cumin, but otherwise great! Fresh made corn tortillas were awesome.
The carne asada was good, but a bit tough. I think I would have preferred the bisteck encebollado. The Campechana was surprisingly amazing.
Overall - one of the best mexican places we've been to in the area. Will definitely go back!
I've lived in the area for four years and never had any interest in coming here. Then BF moved in and started asking about it.
"Have you been there?"
"Have you tried it?"
"Should we go?"
"How do you think it is?"
"Have you Yelped it yet?"
So after a few weeks of pestering, I finally caved and looked at the reviews. Man.... I've been missing out. This is the prime example of why you should never ever ever ever EVER judge a book by its cover. ((I really should know better... the grungiest places always seem to be the best))
So we decided to come here on a Friday evening. Conveniently, it was during their "late" happy hour. There's no food on the HH menu... just cheap drinks. BF got a tequila sunrise with a whole lot of tequila and a teeeeeeensie bit of sunrise. No complaints. At $3, that was a steal.
BF ordered a wet carne asada burrito - it was good. I still prefer a certain grocery-store-burrito-on-Grand over theirs. BUT.... it was huge and it was yummy and we still had leftovers which were phenomenal. I ordered the Friday special - Caldo de rez.
Their caldo de rez needs to be on their daily menu. This took me back to my childhood. The broth was perfect - you could tell that it simmered for hours. The beef was tender and fell off the bone. There was still marrow in the bone! It literally left me speechless. And then I hit the bottom of my bowl and I was overcome with sadness because I knew that this meal was over. When you get sad that you're done with your food, you KNOW it was good.
Oh yeah... service was fantastic! They were super nice and very attentive. Oh... and our total (after tip) was $30..... what a great value for a sit-down joint.
Come here. Stop judging it without trying it.
Low key best Mexican food in South City. Their food is packed with flavor and always tastes fresh. Highly recommend!!
The most amazing home made tortillas, great carnitas, and friendly service. Every time I go I try something different but always order a chili relleno a la carte. They offer fresh juices cold beers and pina colladas. A diverse mix of locals are always present, everyone enjoying a delicious meal.
Ok, folks. The last time I was here about 10 years ago, this place was meh! After further discussion one Saturday morning and being pressured to try it again, I gave in. Not only did I not want to continue this convo but I was hurting. My little brain was dehydrated. lol,
Anyway- I ordered Menudo (The Cure Soup) it had a great homemade taste to it! It was very good and met my standards ( just sounds important).
*Still hung over*
Ordered a Carne Asada taco to accompany my yummy Menudo, which by the way came in a HOMEMADE tortilla!! The steak was very tasty!!
Ordered ( Where was I going to fit all this?) Chilaquiles en Salsa Verde! The tortilla was nice and crunchy and not soggy at all (That's a plus in my book). I usually don't eat the beans or rice (will skip the rice) but the beans were very, very good. No cheese needed.
*Still hung over*
Ordered a Michelada to help this yummy food go down...Wait did I say I was hung over? No, not me....
Homemade tortillas, great menudo, and outstanding service.
Will be coming back to try other authentic dishes.
Delicious :) I had the wet super burrito. It was huge!! Next time I will get extra cheese ;) chips and salsa are really good. Salsa is spicy for me but I still liked it. We will be back.
Whenever I'm in South San Francisco I make a lunch stop here. I urge you to try the Monday special, Caldo de Rs. This soup is loaded with beef, veggies and a broth that's out of bounds! They serve this with a small side of rice for topping, lime and hand made fresh corn tortillas.
Although I come here often, I recently discovered their back patio dining area where I can see myself sipping a beer in the future.
This is definitely a hidden gem and I'm gonna share that with you and my buddies.
Food is amazing but service is slow and sometimes the tables smell like old towels. I often just order to go since the homemade tortillas are amazing with their sour cream.
